Previously a republic of the Soviet Union, Belarus became independent in 1991. The population of the country is 9.5 million which is decreasing each year as a result of the Chernobyl disaster. The main religions are Orthodoxy and Roman Catholicism. The Evangelicals share is only about 1.3 % of the population.
The Church of God is growing in this small country even as Belarus’s overall population slides downward. The process of registration of new congregations is a slow and tedious process. Officially, the Church of God has two congregations with application for several congregations in process. And the Church of God in Belarus enjoys close communion with the Church of God in Russia.
